It’s difficult to pinpoint the exact moment the notion of digital transformation came to be, but since its inception the digital age was born. Innovation led the enterprise into the cloud, and businesses have yet to look back. With the advent of SD-WAN and its sibling future forward networking solutions, security perspective has shifted, and some were ready.

Cloud security provider Zscaler announced the acquisition of Edgewise Networks. The Edgewise addition offers expertise in application-to-application communications for data centers and public clouds allows the Zscaler portfolio to better protect data, applications and users.

Jay Chaudhry, Chairman and CEO of Zscaler, “Edgewise is highly innovative technology that enables application segmentation without having to do traditional network segmentation which is often done with virtual firewalls. We are excited to welcome the Edgewise team to the Zscaler family.”

Edgewise brings a complimentary piece to Zscaler, in that it enhances security of east-west communications traffic with the use of AI and machine learning algorithms for application segmentation.  By taking this approach, it lowers risk of compromise and data breaches.

“We are proud to have made zero trust security achievable in complex, multi-cloud environments. Our core innovation is the use of software identity verification to simultaneously strengthen security and simplify operations,” said Peter Smith (News - Alert), CEO of Edgewise.

Security is a cat and mouse game we are well versed, and as innovation extends capability the mouse continues to find a way. When it comes to protecting your operations, wouldn’t it make sense to give the cat an edge?
