8 Million VoIP Calls Per Day
Associate Editor
Voice over IP is a growing industry, of that there is no question. The question is how quickly is it growing, and how long will the trend continue. For VoIP, Inc., a provider of VoIP solutions for service providers, resellers, and consumers, the answers are very rapidly and never, hopefully. Indeed, the company continues to experience consistent, solid growth, securing its position among the leading VoIP providers in the United States.
VoIP, Inc.’s service is based on technology first developed by its CTO Shawn Lewis, who wrote the patents for the first Softswitch and SS7 Media Gateway for XCOM Technologies, Inc., a CLEC he co-founded and directed before its acquisition by Level 3 Communications (News - Alert), Inc.
In May 2004, VoIP, Inc.’s network minutes were approximately 100,000/month. They jumped to more than 250,000,000/month after the company acquired Volo Communications and the VoiceOne network in June 2005, both of which were developed and founded by Lewis. In November 2005, after VoIP, Inc. acquired WQN, an international pre-paid phone card company, the company’s 2005 annual usage surged to 3.6 billion.
“We are passing our competitors with an average of over 8 million calls inbound/outbound daily. We have worked hard to add customers, and we have signed up an incredible number of high-profile ones,” VoIP, Inc.’s President Mike Adler said.
VoiceOne provides a hearty selection of world-class services to carriers and service providers, including the VoiceOne Network, a seamless nationwide IP network. The VoiceOne network includes 22 points of presence in the U.S. and more than 5,000 local access points, allowing it to reach some 90% of the U.S. population. VoiceOne supports most protocols, including SS7, PRI, H.323, SIP, and MGCP, and utilizes both circuit- and packet-switching technology.
VoiceOne’s services include:
- VoiceOne Carrier Direct — A partner program for CLECs, which IP-enables the CLEC’s TDM network to create a hybrid network providing SIP origination and termination, along with access to VoiceOne's feature server to provide broadband voice services.
- VoiceOne Local Origination — Provides one of the largest selections of Direct Inward Dial (DID) numbers available. Web-based administration and automated XML provisioning saves time when managing inventory, access, reservation and allocation. Additional VoiceOne services can be added.
- VoiceOne Enhanced 911 Services — A complete FCC (News - Alert)-compliant solution for VoIP e911 (News - Alert) calls utilizing a private MPLS network along with proprietary softswitch, selective routers, and media gateway controllers to provide the redundancy necessary for best quality of service. Enhanced 911 also provides the remedy for on-the-go, nomadic subscribers.
- VoiceOne Domestic Termination — Takes place on the VoiceOne Network where it has facilities. Otherwise, traffic is handed to a network partner. VoiceOne can accept traffic in either TDM or IP formats.
- VoiceOne International Termination — Features direct routes and connections established to many international voice carriers worldwide, with competitive rates and plans to fit the needs of all customers.
- VoiceOne 800 Origination — A flexible solution with IP or TDM delivery offers nationwide toll-free numbers with full control over routing.
