Proving once again that Voice over Internet Protocol is truly a global phenomenon, Verso Technologies today announced that it was selected by the Aksh Broadband consortium for the deployment of its VoIP softswitch solution to support government, residential and enterprises throughout the state of Andhra Pradesh, India.

The consortium's goal, according to a news release, is to "deliver next-generation technology to rural villages throughout the region and propagate education to these areas at affordable pricing."

The deployment, the release notes, will be the largest VoIP broadband network in the world, "targeting an estimated one million VoIP subscribers by the end of the second quarter of 2008."

"We are proud that the Aksh Broadband consortium has chosen Verso's softswitch solution to deploy its VoIP-based network in India," said Verso president and CEO Monty Bannerman in a prepared statement.  "Our solution meets their needs due to its robust, yet scalable architecture and will support modern communications services to the people of Andhra Pradesh."

In addition to today's announcement, Verso Technologies recently partnered with Veraz and IP Unity to deploy an advanced prepaid solution to deliver innovative services to residential and business customers in Latin America.

The companies have already deployed their solution at international telecommunications company Cable & Wireless for 600,000 pre-paid residential and calling card subscribers in Panama.
