AT&T just scored a new Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) contract from York Insurance Services Group Inc., the company made the announcement on Monday. The agreement calls for the telecom giant to provide a fully managed, high-speed network integrating the insurance company's twenty offices.
For this project, AT&T will be replacing a "hub and spoke" network that offered limited port speeds with an IP VPN. With the AT&T IP VPN in place, each York location will be able to connect directly with any other company location and at data speeds twice as fast as the old network. The network also includes class of service capabilities, which prioritize network traffic and enable VoIP apps.
"AT&T's fully managed, high-bandwidth network allows us to run our business more efficiently and lays the foundation for advanced applications like VoIP," said Henry Eckstein, CIO of York Insurance Services Group. "AT&T has been responsive to our needs and their solution will help us better serve our customers."
AT&T made news when it announced earlier this moth that it scored a similar contract from Republic Services Inc. Republic provides solid waste services, including collection, transfer, disposal and recycling nationwide. The deal, valued at $4.5 million, called for AT&T to integrate Republic’s 230 locations across the United States, including its data centers in Ft. Lauderdale and Las Vegas, with an IP VPN.
The AT&T system will allow Republic to migrate to its telecom services to an all VoIP-based service. It will also feature messaging capabilities, voice e-mail, bandwidth on demand and Web-based voice portals.
