Banks Adding Catbird(TM) Pharming Shield(TM) to Reassure Customers

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Record numbers of banks are joining the growing ranks of businesses displaying the Catbird(TM) Pharming Shield(TM) seal on websites to reassure customers that the site is safe and open for business. Catbird Security(TM), developer of the most comprehensive threat protection technology for service providers, today released a list of more than 30 banks that have recently added the Catbird Pharming Shield seal to their web sites as part of each bank's comprehensive security protection. The Pharming Shield shows the date and time that Catbird last verified that traffic for the site is reaching its correct target, without interference from "man in the middle" or "DNS poisoning" attacks commonly known as pharming.

In recent years, pharming has become a major concern to businesses hosting ecommerce and online banking websites. Banks have discovered that customer fears of identity theft can lead them to shy away from the convenience of online banking. This increases costs for banks that have to staff call centers or add employees to branches, and reduces productivity and convenience for customers who don't take advantage of the full complement of services offered on most bank websites. Catbird's Pharming Shield restores customer confidence via a service that gives up-to-the-minute status on the health of a website. This, in turn, is a significant cost-savings for the bank.

Pharming attacks are disproportionably underreported in the media. Businesses are usually reluctant to disclose a pharming attack, fearing a loss of customer trust. Moreover, until now pharming attacks were extremely difficult to detect. With Catbird's continuous monitoring, pharming attacks can be identified within minutes, allowing the problem to be fixed before customer data can be compromised.

"Trust is the number one factor in choosing a financial institution," said Catbird COO Edmundo Costa. "The Catbird Pharming Shield is a genuine security measure that visibly demonstrates to customers of any business with an online presence that client security is the #1 priority. This is especially important to e-tailers and banks, because of the constant threat of these insidious, invisible pharming attacks by criminals.

"Catbird Networks, working through partnerships with leading solution providers and partners, delivers continuous Managed Security for organizations of all sizes. If an attack takes place, our customers are notified in minutes - if not seconds - so that criminals never have time to steal customer information."

Catbird's patented fully in-the-cloud Security-As-A-Service(TM) is the only available technology which combines both Web Security and Network Access Control (NAC).

"Our goal in using Catbird's Pharming Shield is to detect and eliminate online attacks before they can impact our customers," explains Michael Rossi, NexBank 's Chief Financial Officer. "The Pharming Shield seal is like a marquee on our site, broadcasting a warm welcome to our clients and inviting them to a safe business relationship with NexBank. We are constantly vigilant about safeguarding our customers' information, and Catbird is one of the powerful tools we use to maintain our impeccable reputation."

The financial institutions which deploy Catbird's technology reap an immediate benefit in the visible security and performance of their e-commerce web sites. As soon as they see the distinctive Catbird Pharming Shield logo, customers can rest assured that they are protected continuously while transacting business. Customers can review the verified security of the web site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In alphabetic order, the newest banks displaying the Catbird Pharming Shield seal include: Bank of Ann Arbor, Bank of Eastman, Castle Bank, Chester National Bank, Citizens First National Bank, Crossroads Bank, Farmers State Bank, Fidelity Bank, The First National Bank of Emory, First National Bank of River Falls, First National Bank of South Carolina, Flanagan State Bank, Friends Bank, Gibraltar Private Bank & Trust, Legacy State Bank, Llano National Bank, Lytle State Bank, MainSource Bank, Merchants and Farmers Bank, Mutual Community Savings Bank, Nebraska Independent Community Bankers, NexBank, Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, Port Washington State Bank, Royal Bank, State Bank of Chandler, State Bank of Drummond, SunMark Community Bank, Taylorsville Savings Bank, Texas Partners Federal Credit Union, Tomahawk Community Bank, Twin City Bank, and Waldo State Bank.

I am from one of the banks listed, we looked at catbird and decided not to use them, I then looked at some of the other banks listed and realize that only 2 of six checked actually had teh CATBIRD mark.
