Brooktrout Debuts SnowShore IP Media Server Release 1.4

By DAVID R. BUTCHER, Assistant Editor, Customer Interaction Solutions

Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a supplier of media processing and call-control products, today announced the general availability of SnowShore IP Media Server release 1.4. The newest release of the software-based product offers increased scalability and video processing performance boosts as well as a new set of multimedia features.

Release 1.4 of the SnowShore IP Media Server provides carriers and Brooktrout application partners with the following: significantly extended capacity for large-scale audio conferencing sessions; high-performance processing of large-bandwidth video streams for multimedia and messaging services; and advanced collaboration support for contact center applications.

High-Capacity Audio Conferencing
The carrier-grade collaboration support of which Brooktrout’s newest SnowShore IP Media Server software release features is optimized to scale and is designed to manage and deliver high-capacity audio conferencing applications. In leveraging this new capability — and via single and multiple SnowShore IP media server clusters — carriers are able to quickly expand small three-way conferencing sessions to large conferencing sessions with thousands of active and passive participants.

Multimedia Collaboration Features
Brooktrout partner Transera Communications, a provider of collaborative call management software, is set to leverage new multimedia collaboration features within the new release to support its collaborative call management solutions. Transera will utilize the platform’s “coach whisper” feature, three-way conferencing and call-leg muting functionality to provide call monitoring and multiparty conferencing by call center agents during active calls; during this function’s process, the agents can remain invisible to the end customer.

As well, the platform’s core media server functions enable Transera to offer global contact center functionality, such as call queuing, dynamic call treatments, announcement, routing and recording.

High-Performance Video Processing
Brooktrout’s new software release features enhanced video processing performance boosts, enabling the processing of high-bandwidth video streams upward of 200 Kbps, therefore ensuring “video messaging and conferencing partners can deliver real-time, low-latency, high-resolution IP video services across fixed or mobile networks to diverse endpoints devices.”

To wireless and wireline carriers, this level of performance proffers enhanced flexibility and broader application reach.

Software Flexibility, Carrier-Grade Capacity
Brooktrout’s SnowShore IP Media Server release 1.4 software delivers higher capacity and offers flexible deployment options. Further, it features an expanded session capacity up to 500 sessions per server blade. Application partners or carriers can embed the Brooktrout media server within single applications, or they can deploy it across an array of standards-based, carrier-grade NEBS compliant systems.

Supporting Red Hat 4.0 ES, it is also controlled via SIP and VoiceXML. It is interoperable with a broad range of third-party application servers and access infrastructures in next-generation fixed, wireless and broadband network environments.

Brooktrout’s SnowShore IP Media Server release 1.4 is available today. Brooktrout Technology is a subsidiary of Brooktrout, Inc.
