Sigma Systems announced in a news release on Tuesday that rural cable provider Cable One recently selected Sigma as its OSS vendor to deliver new PacketCable telephony services to its subscribers.

For Cable One, which has over 700,000 subscribers in 54 markets scattered across 19 states, the decision to select Sigma Systems was an easy one.

"Crucial to selecting Sigma Systems at Cable One was their proven experience and deployed OSS installations for VoIP at other leading cable operators," said Kishore Reddy, Director Voice Services, Cable One.  "Sigma's OSS solutions for VoIP and related broadband IP services are highly trusted in the cable industry – hence our deployment risk is significantly reduced and time to market can be accelerated."

Sigma said its Service Management Platform (SMP), VoIP Service Package, Service Profile Manager and Client Services Center (CSC) will enable Cable One to easily deploy new next-generation services to subscribers located in 45 markets by early 2006.

Specifically, the press release states that Cable One will use Sigma's Service Management Platform (SMP) and VoIP Service Package for the following: resource management, service provisioning and inter-carrier gateway integration (i.e. E911, LSR, LNP, PIC/CARE) capabilities for VoIP services such as dial tone, voice mail, long distance service provider selection and CLASS/calling features.

"For cable operators, end-to-end automation for VoIP services is 'mission critical' to scale business and operational processes, and meet their objectives for new revenue growth," said Tim Spencer, Sigma's president and COO.  "Our significant VoIP deployment experience is a key differentiator, gained from our numerous deployments across the globe.  Cable One is capitalizing on the benefits of a robust portfolio constructed from nine years of complex integration experience for cable telephony services."

The importance of OSS service management is not lost on Cable One officials.

"The role of OSS service management is essential as we deploy VoIP services, scale operations, and look to grow revenues for our subscriber base," said Steve Fox, Cable One's vice president of digital services and technology, in a prepared statement.  "Using Sigma's solutions, we gain operational efficiencies by significantly reducing the manual work and processes associated with service order management and service provisioning for complex VoIP services.  In turn, we can deliver greater customer satisfaction by ensuring timely and reliable provisioning of new cable telephony services."

Winning MSOs as customers is nothing new to Sigma, which deployed a Service Management Portfolio at Adelphia Communications last year.
