In a move to market Vonage's VoIP-based calling services, the company's Canadian division announced an online promotion with visaperks.ca, the online shopping portal that provides exclusive offers for VISA cardholders.

"We are delighted to be working with one of the premier payment brands in the world to bring our full-featured, flat-rate Internet phone service to VISA cardholders," said Bruce Robertson, Director Marketing Programs, Vonage Canada. "With Vonage leading the way, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is becoming a popular option for Canadians looking to save money on their monthly phone bill. By offering close to $130 in savings, we're confident that VISA cardholders will find the Vonage service attractive, especially those who are looking for an alternative to traditional phone service."

When VISA cardholders visit the online shopping portal and select Vonage from the 'merchant' scroll down menu, they can register for Vonage and choose to pay for their phone service using their VISA card, they will receive one month of free local and long distance phone service from Vonage (valued from $19.99 to 69.99), free shipping (valued at $19.99), and free activation (valued at $39.99). With this promotion VISA cardholders will save as much as $129.97. This promotion will run until May 31, 2006.

"We are pleased to offer our VISA cardholders yet another exclusive benefit through visaperks.ca," said Brenda Woods, vice president Consumer Products, VISA Canada. "The discounts on Vonage Internet Phone Service will be attractive to our cardholders, particularly those cardholders who collect rewards points on their VISA card and want full-fledged phone service for less."

Vonage made news last week when it announced that it has turned on E911 service in over 2,200 PSAPs in the U.S. The VoIP service provider announced it equipped over 200 calling centers in more than 35 new counties with 911 calling capabilities in just one week.

"In just over a month, we have turned up E911 service in over 235 counties and 650 PSAPs across the nation," said Jeffrey A. Citron, Vonage's chairman and CEO. "Vonage continues to work with the FCC, regulators, Congress and public safety to turn up a national E911 system across the nation."

The company also made available Western European virtual numbers. Vonage subscribers will now be able to have virtual numbers with area codes from Austria, France, Ireland, Italy and Spain. The move will enable European friends, family and business associates residing and working within these nations to now call U.S.-based Vonage customers for the price of a local call.
