Cellular VoIP

Mobile phones outnumber landline handsets in many markets, and that number only continues to grow.  But when faced with the need for international calling, many people opt for their landlines — it’s considerably less expensive, in most cases.

MINO Wireless is a mobile services company based in Sunnyvale, California, which provides low-cost international calling from mobile phones. MINO has completed three months of its international call service from mobile phones.

MINO’s new technology will make VoIP calling available to people worldwide, delivering QoS, ease of use, and lower cost for international dialing.  MIMO calls are routed through the Internet connection available on most modern mobile phones.  Its patent-pending technology uses the traditional phone infrastructure to make calls with high quality and reliability, but with significant advantages.

“The holy grail of Internet phone calls is to make them work on mobile phones, and we may be the first company to achieve that. We have been working on this technology for over two years, but to launch this worldwide, you have to make your service work on every popular phone from every major carrier in every major country in the world,” said Jing Liu, the CEO and founder of MINO Wireless.

“People know that mobile phones can connect to the Internet, and can make Internet calls from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world, but this is the first time that all the pieces of this new business have been tested in the real world,” explained Mukesh Ahuja, VP of Marketing and Sales for North America at MINO Wireless. “We are thrilled with the market feedback we have received. Three months after launch, we have paying subscribers in 43 countries.”

To use MINO, you need a mobile phone that connects to the Internet.  Most GSM phone users can install MINO for direct dial.  If your phone doesn’t support Java, you can still use the phone’s browser or the MINO Web site to enjoy your savings.

Users can make cellular MINO calls to Hong Kong or Singapore for 2.2 cents/minute.  Other countries range from 7.2 to about 36 cents/minute for mobile calls.
