If only the SS Minnow were equipped with VoIP, then perhaps we could have avoided the tortuous exercise that was Gilligan’s Island.

Station 53, a provider of high-speed satellite Internet connectivity at sea, has selected CommPartners’ network and applications platform to provide VoIP services to yachting vessels.

The coverage area, according to the companies, consists of the U.S. Caribbean and the Mediterranean Sea.

With VoIP services available at sea, GSM and satellite airtime charges will be drastically reduced, the companies said.

“This partnership will change how our customers communicate while at sea,” said Station 53 President Sean Farrell in a prepared statement.

Station 53 recently deployed the service with “Apogee,” at 204-foot yacht in Cartagena, Spain.
