Digium Inc., creator of the open source PBX Asterisk, announced on Wednesday the launch of its Digium Asterisk Partner Program.

The program was created “in response to the growing ecosystem of Asterisk and the demand for open source-based telephony platforms.”

Digium’s statement provided a partial list of partners, including the following:

• Aculab – Network and communications hardware;

• Aheeva – Contact center solutions;

• Cepstral – Audio, telephony, assistive, embedded;

•Empirix – VoIP test solutions and VoIP test equipment;

• Polycom, Inc. – IP office and conference phones;

• Switchvox – IP PBX phone systems for SMBs.

“The Digium Partner Program is a way to leverage the synergies within the Asterisk community,” said Rick Segrest, marketing manager at Digium, in a statement.  “Working with our partners to combine resources will help us all showcase the wide-range of applications in telecommunications from SMB to enterprise in various industries.”

The program itself offers two different types of partnerships: Asterisk Solution Partners and Asterisk Interoperability Partners, which are available at two different levels.

According to the statement, Digium Partners offers numerous promotional benefits, including being listed on Digium’s Partner website and having the right to use Digium and Asterisk logos.

The Interoperability Partner category is offered to companies “whose technology complements Asterisk-based solutions.”  Interoperability Partners will have access to Digium’s Asterisk Interoperability Certification program and up to 24 hours of testing for Asterisk Business Edition verification.

In separate news, Aculab on Wednesday announced that its media processing resource card will be verified to work with Digium's Asterisk Business Edition.  According to a prepared statement, Aculab and Digium will ensure Prosody PCI will continue to complement future versions of Asterisk Business Edition, based on Digium's Interoperability Test Suite.

With Linux now a part of everyday vernacular, it’s no wonder everyone is looking to open source software for IP-based communications to make further inroads. Find out how open source projects can affect your return on investment and the bottom line at the Open Source Summit taking place at this fall’s INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & Expo, which runs October 24-27, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
