Internet service provider (ISP) EarthLink and Linksys, a division of Cisco Systems (News - Alert), have announced a co-marketed Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) hardware and service solution that provides everything customers need to make phone calls over their Internet connection.
The new co-marketed VoIP solution features Earthlink (News - Alert)’s trueVoice telephony service along with the customer’s choice of a phone adapter (SPA2002-ER) or wireless-G router (WRTP54G-ER) from Linksys (News - Alert).
EarthLink’s trueVoice is compatible with any high speed connection and is a plug and play solution that can be installed in minutes to work on any touchtone phone. With the service, customers can achieve the cost savings and feature benefits of calling via the Internet, without having to invest in expensive new handsets.
The Linksys phone adapter works with a standard wired or wireless router, while the wireless-G has a built-in phone adapter for home networking. Both products provide two phone ports for connection of two standard home phones or fax machines.
“This collaboration between Linksys and EarthLink will help drive the use of VoIP,” said Glen McLaughlin, Linksys vice president of North American retail sales. “The ability to market hardware and service together enables us to make it easier for customers to purchase and set up VoIP on a home network, allowing for a better overall user experience.”
The complete VoIP calling packages, including both hardware and software, is currently available at Fry’s Electronics stores.
