New York City-based Eureka Networks and Melville, N.Y.-based InfoHighway Communications Corp. today announced the completion of their merger, thereby creating one of the largest CLECs in the Northeast.

Indeed, according to a news release, the new company, Eureka/InfoHighway, will serve approximately 14,000 small- to medium-sized business customers with 150,000 access lines in 14 states.

Eureka/InfoHighway will serve as a single source for traditional telecommunications services, high speed Internet access, VoIP and hosted PBX solutions, managed security and data networking.

The merger, which was announced in early June, received all of the state and federal regulatory approvals in a relatively short period of time.

"We have completed the merger of the two companies, including the receipt of the necessary regulatory approvals," said Jeff Ginsberg, chairman of Eureka/InfoHighway, in a prepared statement.  "We will continue to build on the strengths of the two companies combining powerful distribution channels with a wide-range of innovative network-based services."

Eureka/InfoHighway CEO Raul Martynek said that there has been "significant progress" in unifying the two companies' systems infrastructure, including their BSS-OSS systems.

"We have also integrated our management teams creating one of the most experienced and dedicated organizations in the industry," Martynek said.  "Eureka/InfoHighway is well-positioned to deliver increased benefits for all of our customers and to be one of the best competitive carriers in our markets."
