Linksys Optimizes Nets for VoIP and Gaming
TMCnet Contributing Editor
Linksys announced on Thursday the launch of its Network Optimizer for VoIP and gaming, the OGV200. According to the networking hardware provider, the OGV200 was designed to eliminate network lag in data streams that are sensitive to delay.
"Even the slightest lag in network traffic can effect someone's online experience, particularly when it comes to gaming, video or VoIP," said Mani Dhillon, director, product marketing, Linksys (News - Alert) in a statement. "With the OGV200, Linksys is enabling users to virtually eliminate latency in their networks."
The OGV200 can automatically distinguish between data that is time sensitive and data that can be given a lower priority. This feature can make online games run smoother, make VoIP calls clearer, and video transmitted from the network smoother.
The user can plug two Ethernet cables into the OGV200, one originating at their modem and the other leading to a router. There is no complicated interface to navigate, and no settings to alter. The device immediately begins to prioritize all network data that is transmitted through it.
The OGV200 is currently available from authorized Linksys e-commerce retailers, retail stores, direct response, and VAR partners at an estimated street price of $69.99.
Linksys has been making strides in the VoIP industry through strategic partnerships with providers such as the one announced back in April with DigiLinea to offer bundled VoIP services to the Latin American and US Hispanic markets. The new partnership will allow consumers and small businesses to purchase Linksys Phone Adapters (PAP2) that are pre-configured with the DigiLinea VoIP service.
