Microsoft Introduces Public Database for Reporting Bugs in Internet Explorer

Microsoft has reportedly set up a public database so that Internet Explorer users can report bugs in the new version of the Web browser.

Users will have to sign up for a passport account on the Microsoft (News - Alert) Connect Web site to post or view messages about bugs. Microsoft is currently accepting bug posts for Internet Explorer 7 and future versions.

Microsoft decided to come up with the public database after users conveyed the need for it.

“Many customers have asked us about having a better way to enter IE bugs,” said Al Billings, a member of the IE project team, in a
Microsoft blog on Friday.

Billings said in the blog that many users were asking why Microsoft didn’t have “Bugzilla, like Firefox or other groups do?”

Microsoft has posted a best practices guideline for posting messages. The company wants to limit access to bug posts by marking them confidential.
