Narus, VeriSign Offer IP-Compliant Managed ServicesTMCnet VoIP Minute Watch Columnist
Packet analyzer Narus Inc. announced on Tuesday it signed an agreement with VeriSign Inc. to allow VeriSign to offer the entire suite of Narus' security, traffic analysis and lawful interception products.
The deal will allow VeriSign to first offer Narus LI for IP lawful intercept, a product for carrier-grade networks. Narus LI has been integrated into the VeriSign NetDiscovery service, which could be a good alternative to building an in-house proprietary lawful interception for circuit-switched or IP-based technologies. The service aids providers in the task of responding to requests for collection of subscriber info, historical billing, call detail records and real-time lawful interception. "VeriSign is the leader in delivering intelligent infrastructure services that enable and protect interactions across voice and data networks," said Raj Puri, vice president, Communications Business Development, VeriSign. "This agreement with Narus allows us to leverage the Narus highly scalable carrier-grade platform to extend our leadership in IP security and compliance management."
NarusSecure, Narus LI, NarusAnalyze and NarusMediate IP security and monitoring systems suite can be implemented at the network core to analyze and correlate traffic in real-time. Narus enables customers to manage IP-based services such as VoIP, IMS and IPTV.

"This agreement will marry VeriSign's unparalleled brand with the scalability and flexibility of the Narus system to create the industry's most complete suite of managed services for IP networks."
Narus made a significant announcement back in October about it signing a Solutions Engagement Agreement (SEA) with technology giant IBM. The agreement enabled IBM Global Services to integrate and resell Narus products and services to telecom service providers worldwide.
The combination of IBM Blade Server hardware, IBM software and Narus' IP Platform deployed across a carrier's network provides carriers with instant knowledge of their traffic flows; a set of tools to identify potentially malicious and anomalous traffic using NarusSecure, and managed network services and mediation.
"Narus is a great example of a VC-backed company whose innovation represents a good partnership opportunity for IBM," said Claudia Fan Munce, IBM vice president and managing director, IBM Venture Capital Group two months ago. "Narus' solution, combined with IBM servers and implementation services, represents a global opportunity for both IBM and Narus."
VeriSign made news last month when Airspan Networks its VeriSign Custom Device Certificate Service to help prevent the pirating of broadband wireless services. The new partnership will enable Airspan to embed VeriSign digital certificates in its WiMAX-certified customer premises equipment devices (CPE), allowing them to meet security requirements for 802.16-2004 and 802.16e WiMAX standards and to prevent device cloning and service pirating.
The VeriSign Custom Device Certificate Service will enable Airspan to centrally generate cryptographic keys and corresponding digital certificates, which are burned into the read-only memory of WiMAX devices prior to shipment. The digital certificate then authenticates the identity of each individual WiMAX CPE to the service provider before permitting a user to access wireless broadband services.
