Net2Phone to Provide VoIP Services for Atlantic Broadband

VoIP service provider Net2Phone announced on Monday that it will provide VoIP services to Quincy, Massachusetts-based Atlantic Broadband, a cable television multiple systems operator. Atlantic Broadband's Phone Service and its Triple-Play package are now available in an area of central Pennsylvania, where it serves 145,000 subscribers.

Atlantic Broadband joins Net2Phone's managed VoIP system client roster which already includes Liberty CableVision of Puerto Rico, Bresnan Communications, Millennium Digital Media, Northland Communications and CMA Communications. The deal will make Net2Phone Atlantic Broadband's PacketCable integrator and telecom administration agent. Net2Phone will be in charge of deploying the telephony together with the Cedar Point SAFARI C3 Multimedia Switching System and the provisioning and management of the public switched telephony network (PSTN) elements including local, domestic and international long distance, operator services and directory assistance.

"Our partnership with Net2Phone has enabled us to effectively launch feature-rich, carrier-quality telephone service that gives us a significant advantage over our phone company and satellite competitors, neither of which can match our first-to-market Triple Play package in central Pennsylvania," said Atlantic Broadband CEO David Keefe.

The new partnership called for Net2Phone to also integrate the VoIP platform into Atlantic Broadband's existing custom care and billing systems to deliver an automated digital phone and high-speed data provisioning system including PSTN service activation (i.e., local service request, number porting, directory listing, E911, etc.). Net2Phone will provide 24x7 service assurance, track and monitor voice quality and network performance metrics from start to finish and will provide Atlantic Broadband with a real time view of the call traffic routed over its network.

Atlantic Broadband's Phone Service is offered at $44.95 per month and $29.95 per month when combined with any level of either video or Internet service.

"Helping Atlantic Broadband maintain its competitive edge by delivering a high quality, attractively priced, feature rich product is the principle of the Net2Phone cable strategy," noted Net2Phone Cable Telephony president, Michael Pastor. "We are pleased with the expanding number of mid-sized US cable MSOs that have elected to partner with Net2Phone."

Net2Phone made news last month when it announced that it was selected by Brazilian telecom provider Telemar as its outsourced VoIP systems provider for residential broadband telephony throughout the South American country. The deal called for Net2Phone to provide Telemar with the platform services that allow them to deliver Brazilian residents SIP-based broadband telephony. Telemar plans to market its telephony services directly to its existing telecom and high-speed data customers as well as via multiple marketing channels.

"Partnering with Telemar, one of the largest telcos in Latin America, clearly confirms the quality and reliability of our solutions and serves as a testament to our ability to add incremental value to a service provider’s portfolio," said Jonathan Reich, CEO of Net2Phone Global Services back then. "We are excited to work with Telemar to drive the expansion of digital telephony in Brazil and look forward to expanding our relationship with additional offerings in the future."
