Telecom product provider Tekelec was tapped by PrairieWave Communications of South Dakota in order to deploy the Tekelec 7000 Class 5 Packet switches (T7000) and the Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server (T6000), the companies announced on Wednesday.
Through the new partnership, PrairieWave will be able to begin planning the delivery of VoIP services and applications over its broadband network to more than 60,000 subscribers in 45 communities in the states of South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota.
"Tekelec's integrated solution enables us to provide high-quality bundled services and applications to both our new packet customers and our existing TDM customers for a true triple-play offering. We expect a very attractive return on investment as a result of the operational savings, new incremental revenue streams and increased revenue per subscriber benefits that Tekelec uniquely provides," said Jerry Andersen, vice president, Network Engineering and Operations, PrairieWave.
The T7000 Class 5 packet switch features line-side and trunk-side packet switching, and signaling system 7 (SS7) A-link consolidation of seven existing legacy switches supported by Tekelec's point-code pass through/signal relay point emulation functionality. "This feature increases network reliability by providing full SS7 diversity for all central offices," noted the companies' news release.
The Open Manager also delivers a Web-based, network-wide management system, in order to perform operations, administration, maintenance and provisioning (OAM&P) tasks on multiple softswitches from a central location or remotely.
The T6000's VoIP services and applications feature automatic disaster recovery, which enables the re-routing of all IP phone calls to a wireline or mobile phone if a user's data network fails. It also features a soft phone and Tekelec's click-to-dial Web-based Portal that supports the T6000's voicemail, unified messaging, conferencing, remote phone and find-me applications.
Today's news follows Tekelec's recently inked reselling agreement with Convergin announced last Monday. The agreement will allow Tekelec to add the Convergin Accolade platform to Tekelec's Real Convergence Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) offering. Convergin is an Israel-based provider of core wireless convergence servers.
According to the companies' news release, "the combination of Convergin's core Wireless Convergence Server (WCS), Accolade, and Tekelec's market-leading family of carrier-grade switching products-the Tekelec 9000 Distributed Switching Solution and the Tekelec 3000 Media Gateway Controller, creates a powerful mobile switching solution with comprehensive capabilities in mobile and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) domains."
