RFID news announced recently:

X-Change Corporation has announced that, pursuant to a previously announced agreement, the company's wholly owned subsidiary, AirGATE Technologies, Inc. has received an order for delivery of prototype modules and the initial 2,500 scanners for intended installation in a radio frequency identification (RFID)-enabled prison-based telephone product being developed for use in correctional facilities nationwide. Over the next four years, additional orders could exceed 36,000 scanners.

In response to this order, AirGATE has in turn issued a series of purchase orders for the first 2,500 scanners to Sirit Inc., a provider of RFID technology. The purchase orders also cover OEM development and delivery of prototypes to AirGATE.

The widely-read Cosmetics & Toiletries and Household Products Marketing News (swimsuit issue to come out next month) is reporting that Taiyo Kikai has announced a "new RFID tag/label machine with a capacity of up to 50 meters of work per minute," depending on materials used:

"Options include an inspection system and rejecter. The machine (Model TIC-R) uses pre-printed tack paper. RFID inlet roll is cut and put into position. An automatic cutoff controller makes rotary die cutting and sheet cutting more stable. The system handles paper up to 250mm wide."

WJ Communications, Inc., a designer and supplier of RF products for the wireless infrastructure and RFID reader markets, has announced the availability of its Gen2 MPR7030 RFID reader module, designed specifically for the Taiwan market.

The MPR7030 supports the UHF Taiwan frequency range and is compliant with the ISO18000-6C (Gen2) standards. This device is suitable for handheld, printer, forklift, portal and other mobile or fixed device applications.

WJ has also announced the availability of a Gen2 UHF RFID reader module, the MPR7040, for the Singapore market: "The easy-to-implement MPR7040 delivers exceptional RF performance, 1-watt of power, customized solutions and considerable size advantages," company officials say.

RCD Technology Corporation has announced a strategic international development and manufacturing partnership with American BankNote S.A. (ABnote), a printer and supplier of Plastic Cards and ID Systems. The relationship allows RCD to expand its international footprint and provides ABnote with access to RCD's proprietary and patented RFID antenna & inlay fabrication process.

"Using their complementary manufacturing capabilities and processes, the two companies are co-developing innovative new RFID products and assembly processes," RCD officials say.
