SIPquest announced on Monday it introduced Mobile Console, a software application residing in mobile handsets. The app delivers personal command and control of communications services over WiFi or WiFi and GSM or WiFi and CDMA network interfaces.

The application's single GUI and support for unified numbering consolidates both WiFi and cellular identities to provide an integrated end-user experience. The Network Aware feature detects and recommends network connectivity to allow users to place and receive a call over the best available network, WiFi or cellular, optimizing for lowest cost, highest call quality or user preference.

The latest enhancements to Mobile Console include Instant Messaging (IM), Presence and a Corporate Directory.

When using the IM enterprise-grade feature, employees can send and receive important messages to each other instantly. Senders know in real-time if intended recipients are online or offline to determine if they are receiving the message.

The presence feature allows employees to easily set their phones to "meeting," "away" or other settings so that callers have a proper expectation of when a message or call may be received and/or returned.

The corporate directory feature grants users immediate access to a centralized, up-to-date directory of names that can be easily accessed for instant review or calling. One click on a directory name connects both the caller and highlighted employee.

Enterprise workers can use these new features to check the availability of co-workers, sort through the corporate directory, enable three-way or four-way conference calls, sort through call logs of their desktop phone and have the IP PBX deliver calls to a temporary number.

According to David Hattey, president and CEO of SIPquest, "Mobile Console 2.0 is a major step toward the fulfillment of our vision of giving corporate user complete personal command and control of their communications capabilities - regardless of whether they are in the enterprise or a public setting. With these new features, enterprise users can expect enormous communication productivity gains anywhere, anytime."

Mobile Console 2.0 is optimized for Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 and will be in service provider field trials starting in the second quarter of 2006.

The company also announced it completed interoperability testing with Nortel Multimedia Communications Server 5100 and 5200 VoIP systems today. Today's announcement means that Nortel customers can now offer their subscribers WiFi or dual-mode mobile devices that operate in either GSM or CDMA environments. It also expands the scope of the SIPquest market coverage and provides carriers with the assurance of a proven solution necessary for volume deployment of these advanced services.

"SIPquest and Nortel have worked closely together for over a year to create mobile services for enterprise users," said David Hattey, president and CEO of SIPquest. "The SIPquest Mobile Console brings device independence to Nortel MCS customers and delivers personal command and control of communications to end users. Our list of supported devices and VoIP servers is constantly growing."

The SIPquest Mobile Console software runs on an emerging class of smartphones and PDAs that support Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 or Windows Mobile 5.0. Available for both WiFi devices and so-called dual mode WiFi and GSM or WiFi and CDMA devices, the Mobile Console delivers a uniform user experience regardless of network choice. It also supports a network aware capability that automatically selects the best network for communication or provides user control of network selection.

Today, the Mobile Console ships with "two networks, two numbers" reachability.

SIPquest made news earlier this month when it joined the Symbian Platinum Program to support the growing market for smartphones based on Symbian OS. As a Platinum Partner, SIPquest is extending personalized control of communications services through Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) systems over WiFi, GSM, and CDMA network interfaces to the Symbian OS ecosystem.  Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the open operating system that powers popular smartphones.  Symbian OS is licensed by popular mobile phone manufacturers.

Today, the SIPquest Mobile Assistant works with Symbian OS phones to deliver IM, presence and corporate directory services to IP PBX users.

"As a member of the Symbian Platinum Program, SIPquest is delighted to work with Symbian to bring functionally rich VoIP solutions to Symbian OS phones and thereby satisfy the needs of users that depend on dual mode, WiFi and GSM or WiFi and CDMA, features," said SIPquest's Hattey back then.
