Westell to Use Flextronics Gateways to Deliver Triple-Play Service to Home Users

TMCnet Contributing Editor

Flextronics Software Systems has announced that Westell Technologies, Inc. has joined its Application Partner Program for the MediaStation product line of interactive home gateway devices. The Broadband MediaStations enable service providers to bundle triple-play content and communications services for home users.

As part of the agreement, Westell will use the FSS SIP Phone Toolkit to develop next-generation telecommunication solutions for carriers, service providers and business enterprises throughout the world. The Broadband MediaStations may be easily configured to deliver customized services. The devices integrate broadband home networking and cordless telephony for making VoIP calls, and feature a color touch-screen interface for optimized delivery of voice, video and data services.

"We were looking to partner with a technology expert who could power us to support next generation voice and video services over SIP,” said Chris Shaver, Westell's vice president of engineering. “In FSS, we found an ally who could deliver high quality, feature-rich solutions, which offer guaranteed interoperability with more SIP based Network Infrastructure elements than anyone else. FSS' extensive investment in SIP technology, their extensive product portfolio and the strength of their skilled resources, sets them apart in the SIP technology space."

"Reduced time to market, extensive feature-sets and seamless interoperability are the key factors influencing the market success of telecom equipment vendors worldwide,” said Ajay Gupta, head of products business, Flextronics Software Systems. “At FSS, we are committed to meet these stringent requirements, and the partnership with Westell is a testament of this commitment."

"We are pleased to partner with Westell, a company that offers highly innovative, state of the art, next generation access solutions,” added Gupta. “We look forward to working with them closely to make next generation Broadband Home Networking devices, delivering rich voice, video and data services, a reality."
