U.S. Dept. of Defense Taps AT&T to Provide CircuitsTMCnet Contributing Editor AT&T Inc.'s Government Solutions department announced on Tuesday that it scored a new contract that is worth a whopping $95.4 million from the U.S. Department of Defense. The contract was awarded by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).
The new, three-year contract calls for AT&T to supply circuits and manage network bandwidth for the Defense Information Systems Network. AT&T said it will provide the circuits needed to replace those from expiring contracts. "We're very pleased to continue to support DISA's mission through our ability to supply secure, reliable circuits at competitive rates," said Don Herring, president of AT&T Government Solutions.
DISA procures network services on behalf of the Department of Defense.
AT&T made news last week when it announced it scored a new optical and data-networking services contract with the city of Folsom in the state of California. The five-year contract called for the telecom giant to deploy an Optical Ethernet Metropolitan Area Network (Opt-E-MAN) to support Folsom's internal apps at multiple offices and facilities throughout the community.
"Our outdated T1 service could no longer accommodate our growing demand for high speed connections," said Efrem Richardson, Folsom's information systems manager. "We turned to AT&T to upgrade our services and provide our employees with a reliable, secure network that could support our bandwidth-intensive applications."
