TMCnet VoIP Minute Watch Columnist
IP-based services provider US LEC Corp. today announced the expansion of its MPLS VPN service to the Triangle area of North Carolina including the cities of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.
In addition to the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill areas, US LEC will provide its MPLS VPN to all other major business centers and their surrounding areas throughout the Carolinas. Those business centers will include Asheville, Charleston, Charlotte, Columbia, Greensboro, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Spartanburg, Wilmington and Winston-Salem.
"US LEC's addition of MPLS VPN to the Triangle area continues our roll-out of advanced IP-based data and voice products and services across our entire footprint," said Jeff Blackey, senior vice president of marketing and business development for US LEC. "With the MPLS expansion to the Triangle, our entire North and South Carolina footprint is enabled with IP-based solutions coverage for every major metro area in the two states."
The company's MPLS VPN offering include a meshed and routed network and the prioritization of specific application traffic such as VoIP. The service can be scaled from fractional T1 speeds below 1.5 Megabits per second (Mbs) to DS3 (45 Mbs) to Ethernet Local Loop. US LEC offers both metro and wide-area networking options that allow customers to connect locally within a metro area or across large geographic distances.
"Our customers utilize US LEC's MPLS technology for its geographic coverage, security, redundancy and clear migration path from their legacy systems to next-generation technology," added Blackey. "MPLS VPN provides a 'home run' solution for businesses who need all of these requirements to connect multiple locations."
MPLS VPN is now available in the majority of US LEC's switching centers and includes Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, N.C., Fort Myers, Fla., Greensboro, N.C., Jacksonville, Fla., Miami, Norfolk, Va., Orlando, Fla., Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, N.C., Richmond, Va., Tampa, Fla., Washington, D.C. and West Palm Beach, Fla. The company will continue to roll out MPLS VPN service to the remainder of its switching centers later this year.
US LEC made news back in December when it announced the addition of BIGData, a high-bandwidth Internet and networking service option, for its Dynamic T VoIP service. The company offers Dynamic T BIGData in incremental bandwidth options ranging from 4.5 Mbs to 45 Mbs, allowing businesses to scale and purchase only the bandwidth required. Dynamic T BIGData offers the benefits of VoIP functionality with enhanced features such as Find-Me Follow-Me calling, call management and voice mail functionality.
Additionally, US LEC uses an Integrated Access Device (IAD) that is fully managed by the company, removing the burden of administering complex routing and protocols from customers, and provides 24 x 7 monitoring, repair and replacement service.
