Vitesse Carrier Ethernet Chipset Selected for NEC's Next-Generation Multi-service Platform
LAS VEGAS --(Business Wire)-- Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (Pink Sheets:VTSS) today announced that NEC Corporation, a leader in the optical communications market, has selected Vitesse's Carrier Ethernet chipset to power its "SpectralWave UN5000" Multi-Service Platform. NEC's SpectralWave UN5000 is equipped with a 40 Gbps interface, 320 Gbps large-capacity cross-connect function, a Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS), and a Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switch (GMPLS). Using Vitesse's Carrier Ethernet transport solution, NEC will enable telecom service providers to build converged, high-capacity core and metro networks.
"NEC's network systems have been widely adopted by customers looking to build the next-generation transport networks to enable new packet-based services such as IPTV," said Nobuhiro Kawahara senior expert Optical Network Division at NEC. "Vitesse's Carrier Ethernet chipset provided the highest performance and most feature-rich solution for NEC."
The Vitesse Carrier Ethernet solution for NEC comprises 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) PHYs, multi-channel Ethernet Media Access Controllers (MACs), Ethernet-over-SONET (EoS) Mappers and Time Slot Interchange switches. The combined chipset incorporates expertise ranging from high-performance physical layer to high-speed switching components.
"As a market leader in Carrier-class Ethernet transport, aggregation and switching solutions, Vitesse brings a complete and robust chipset solution that enables Ethernet service delivery over any transport medium while meeting OEM needs for performance and quality of service," said Tony Conoscenti, vice president of product marketing, for Vitesse. "Our highly integrated solutions for the new, converged network allow customers to reduce time-to-market, retain architectural flexibility and maximize their return on investment."
