Volex Improves Collaboration with AT&T's IP VPN

AT&T Inc. announced today that it won a new, three-year networking services contract from the Volex Group plc, a producer of electrical and electronic-cabling assemblies.

The new contract calls for AT&T to deploy an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) to integrate Volex's 21 corporate locations in the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. The IP VPN will provide the company with secure high-speed data, voice and Internet access services.

"Previously, we linked our operational, manufacturing and sales locations through a number of different solutions from disparate providers, which made collaboration among different offices difficult," said Volex's global vice president of information technology Michael Tonino. "With AT&T's VPN, we have an integrated common network to improve productivity and enhance teamwork among our employees, which in turn, improves service to our customers."

Through AT&T's BusinessDirect portal, Volex will obtain around-the-clock online access to real-time reports on network performance and direct connection to electronic billing and trouble management systems. Contract terms were not disclosed at press time.

AT&T made news earlier today when the telecom giant's Government Solutions department announced it scored a new contract valued at a whopping $95.4 million from the U.S. Department of Defense. The contract was awarded by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

The new, three-year contract calls for AT&T to supply circuits and manage the network bandwidth for the Defense Information Systems Network. AT&T (News - Alert) said it will provide the circuits needed to replace those from expiring contracts.

"We're very pleased to continue to support DISA's mission through our ability to supply secure, reliable circuits at competitive rates," noted Don Herring, president of AT&T Government Solutions. DISA procures network services on behalf of the Department of Defense.
