VoIP-based calling service provider Vonage announced this week that it has turned on E911 service in over 2,200 PSAPs in the U.S. The VoIP service provider announced it equipped over 200 calling centers in more than 35 new counties with 911 calling capabilities in just one week.
"In just over a month, we have turned up E911 service in over 235 counties and 650 PSAPs across the nation," said Jeffrey A. Citron, Vonage’s Chairman and CEO. "Vonage continues to work with the FCC, regulators, Congress and public safety to turn up a national E911 system across the nation."
Vonage made news yesterday when it announced the availability of Western European virtual numbers. The VoIP provider announced on Thursday that it made available virtual numbers with area codes from Austria, France, Ireland, Italy and Spain. The move will enable European friends, family and business associates residing and working within these nations to now call U.S.-based Vonage customers for the price of a local call.
Vonage virtual phone numbers are inexpensive secondary numbers that ring to your primary Vonage line. These numbers are available to Vonage subscribers in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. for $9.99 USD, $11.99 CAD and pounds Sterling 5.99 GBP per month respectively. These numbers receive incoming calls only.
