Westcon to Distribute Mediatrix' VoIP Access DevicesBy TED GLANZER

Westcon Group, Inc. and Mediatrix Telecom, Inc. have entered into an agreement that calls for Westcon to serve as the primary North American channel distributor for Mediatrix' VoIP access devices and gateways, according to a statement released by the companies Thursday.
The agreement enables Mediatrix to take advantage of Westcon's VoIP technology expertise and sales approach. "By working with Westcon, we are confident that the solution provider community is able to identify and capture opportunities that fit the profile of our products," said Alex Suter, Mediatrix' worldwide vice president of sales, in a prepared statement.
What's more, Mediatrix is a valuable addition to Westcon's portfolio, which now offers value-added resellers a path for traditional PBX users to capitalize on the benefits that VoIP offers.
"There is still a very large contingent of installations that employ traditional PBX hardware," Paul Cunningham, vice president of Westcon Group's Technology Solutions Group, said in a prepared statement. "[Working with vendors like Mediatrix] gives VARs the ability to help end users migrate to a fully IP capable system at their own pace, helping protect their investment."
Specifically, according to the statement, multi-location companies that connect Mediatrix gateways to the IP network can use "existing handsets while accessing the IP network, helping preserve investments in legacy systems such as Nortel Networks' Norstar product family."
Earlier this year, Mediatrix announced that Elitel, an Italy-based telecommunications company, chose the company to assist in the expansion of Elitel Futura's broadband telephone service into the residential and SOHO markets and increase VoIP adoption by large businesses.
