VoIP-based calling service provider Skype Technologies S.A. announced on Wednesday it introduced new gadgets from Icemat, Sennheiser, Motorola, and others just in time for the holiday season. Most of the devices are currently available on the company's online store.

"With the growing popularity of consumer electronics, we are excited to offer new Skype-certified hardware in time for the holidays," said James Bilefield, vice president of business development for Skype. "Skype allows people everywhere to connect quickly and easily with colleagues and loved ones. With the launch of the U.S. Web store, Skype certified products are easy to purchase and make talking to and seeing your loved ones more simple than ever before."

Skype announced an IPEVO phone for Macintosh and new headsets from partners Icemat and Sennheiser Communications. The IPEVO Free-1 USB Handset is the first Skype-certified handset to support both Windows and Mac platforms. IPEVO is offering a special holiday discount online, the device has a suggested retail price of $30.

The Icemat's Siberia Multi Headset retails for $79. The device comes with comfortable large ear-cups and a unidirectional microphone that can be attached to anything. Volume can be adjusted with a separate control and it also includes a mini jack and converter for professional audio equipment. The headsets are currently available to purchase online and will soon be available on the Skype Web store.

Sennheiser Communications Headsets offer nine Skype-certified headsets, including the Professional PC 120 headset, which retails for $30. The PC 120 is a light, one-sided headset for Internet communications. The device is a good option for travel. It has an integrated volume control and microphone mute switch to keep sound at the right level and allow a side conversation in privacy. Sennheiser Communications headsets are available for purchase online and will soon be available on the Skype Web store.

"Combining Sennheiser's longstanding expertise in audio headsets with Skype's expertise in Internet communications takes communication to a new level," said Michael Porsbo, Sennheiser Communications marketing manager. "It is exciting to be part of a consumer service that is accessible to everyone and improves the way people communicate with their friends, family and colleagues."

Skype announced last month it started selling Skype-certified hardware and software products at approximately 3,500 RadioShack retail establishments around the U.S., as well as on the electronic giant's online store, just in time for this holiday season. The agreement will make RadioShack the first U.S. retailer to offer the Internet phone service.

Skype is selling a Skype Starter Pack available at the Skype Web store and at RadioShack for a special price of $4.99 until December 24 (regularly $9.99). The kit includes free Skype software, a Skype-enabled headset with microphone and 30 SkypeOut minutes to call any number anywhere in the world.

RadioShack is currently selling a Skype Trial Pack; a VoIP Voice Cyberphone K USB Internet phone for Skype; a Linksys Cordless Internet Telephony Kit; a Motorola PC850 Adapter and Bluetooth H500 Headset Kit; and a Logitech USB Headset 250.
