AT&T Inc. was recently tapped by water pump manufacturer Grundfos Group of Denmark to expand its 15 year-long global networking agreement to include Grundfos sites in China.
AT&T provides Grundfos with an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) to integrate locations across Europe, Canada, United States, Mexico, Australia, Taiwan and now China.
Grundfos uses AT&T's network to support the transfer of business data between its global production and distribution facilities, including SAP applications, e-mail traffic, Internet access and VoIP-based voice services. The network uses Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology in the backbone, providing Grundfos with any-to-any connectivity and prioritization of business applications.
"We have found AT&T to be a consistently highly professional and value-focused company. Our long-term relationship continues to offer reliable and highly advanced networking solutions that can accommodate the geographic expanse of our business and support our day-to-day operations. Moving into a key market like China is critical for us and AT&T has been able to demonstrate it has the network reach and ability to serve our needs there," Eli Schroeder, infrastructure manager at Grundfos headquarters.
AT&T made news on Monday when it announced it awarded a $43 million, one-year contract to 2Wire to deliver new Internet Protocol (IP)-based residential gateways for the telecom giant's AT&T U-verse suite of services. With the residential gateway device in place, a home network can be created with the ability to deliver IP-based services throughout the home including IP-based video, high-speed Internet access and voice over IP service.
"2Wire is a proven leader in the broadband gateway market and has now developed innovative IP gateways to help us deliver AT&T U-verse services to our customers," noted Lea Ann Champion, senior executive vice president, in charge of operations for AT&T Project Lightspeed. "The residential gateway plays a significant role in ensuring customers have access to IP-enabled services throughout the home and on various IP-enabled devices."
