TMCnet VoIP Minute Watch Columnist
TelEvolution announced on Tuesday it introduced SoftGnome, a PSTN to Internet telephony softphone. The virtual device enables PCs, PDAs, and WiFi handsets to be connected to a PhoneGnome-equipped landline telephone.
"SoftGnome is an extension of PhoneGnome that you can use virtually everywhere," said David Beckemeyer, founder and CEO of TelEvolution. "By using a SoftGnome configured PC, PDA, or wireless handset, anyone can take their home phone service with them, anywhere there is Internet access."
SoftGnome is currently available as a free trial to PhoneGnome owners. To obtain SoftGnome owners should visit their PhoneGnome portal and activate the SoftGnome feature. Once activated, the owner will be sent an e-mail with an activation code and set up details.
TelEvolution made news back in September when it partnered with VocalNet in order for the CLEC to become the first ITSP to join the TelEvolution Equal Access platform providing PhoneGnome owners a choice in their VoIP to PSTN long distance service provider. The new partnership will enable both companies to jointly market two service plans that offer PhoneGnome owners VoIP to PSTN termination for long distance calling.
"VocalNet is the ideal ITSP to work with PhoneGnome. The company offers high quality calling, trusted support, and straightforward pricing plans," said Beckemeyer back then. "We're looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with VocalNet."
PhoneGnome's and VocalNet's Gold Flat Rate Service offers unlimited Long Distance in the continental United States and Canada for $14.95 a month. The Platinum Flat Rate Service for $21.95 per month adds unlimited long distance to Western Europe, Moscow, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Australia, Buenos Aires, Chile, Sao Paolo and Mexico City. Both plans exclude calls to cell phones and pay phones outside of the USA.
