AT&T Connects Hyatt's 146 Properties for $4.8 M

TMCnet VoIP Minute Watch Columnist

AT&T announced Wednesday that Chicago-based Hyatt Select LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Global Hyatt Corp., awarded the telecom giant a two-year, $4.8 million networking services contract. The deal will have AT&T provide the hotel chain with a portfolio of data, voice and Internet services integrating its 146 properties across the country. Hyatt Select has considered having AT&T's system evolve into a converged voice and data-networking platform by deploying VoIP services in the future.

"AT&T offered us a high-quality solution that complied with our aggressive network integration plan and timeline for Hyatt Place," said Tom O'Toole, senior vice president, strategy and systems for Global Hyatt Corp. "AT&T's networking expertise and reliability allows us to focus on our core business of serving our customers by providing them with the best experiences and accommodations we can."

The partnership will provide Global Hyatt Corp. properties with around-the-clock online access to real-time reports on network performance and direct connection to electronic billing and trouble management systems through the AT&T BusinessDirect portal.

AT&T made news recently when it was tapped by another hotel chain to deploy a voice and data network system. InterContinental Hotels Group announced last week it hired AT&T for it to deploy an IP VPN for its managed Candlewood Suites Hotel portfolio. The companies claimed the project will be the first of its kind in the hospitality industry.

"IHG has always envisioned a networking platform that allows us to offer hotels access to their property management system from a centralized location," said Gustaaf Schrils, vice president of Hotel Technology Services for the Americas Region of IHG last week. "However, until now, networking technology made this model cost-prohibitive, difficult to implement and a serious network security risk."
