Wholesale-hosted VoIP system provider New Global Telecom announced on Monday it introduced the SafeCall E911 service, an FCC-compliant E911 capability supporting the company's 6DegreesIP VoIP product suite. 6DegreesIP is a wholesale-hosted VoIP product suite for CLECs, ISPs, and Tier 1 and 2 business and residential service providers.

SafeCall E911 enables the subscribers of NGT's service provider customers to have nomadic capabilities of VoIP services within the extensive SafeCall E911 service area. According to the company's news release,

"SafeCall E911 automatically provides enhanced information, including a caller's telephone number and registered location address, to an appropriate emergency services operator whenever the subscriber dials 9-1-1."

"SafeCall E911 is a comprehensive service providing end-users with an enhanced degree of safety and security," said NGT President and CEO Rich Grange. "The FCC challenged the VoIP industry to rapidly meet a high standard for 911 service. I am very pleased with the innovative work that our team, together with our strategic partners, has put toward successfully meeting this challenge."

The company teamed up with Intrado in 2004 in order to implement a nomadic VoIP 911 service, in advance of the FCC's Order. The SafeCall E911 solution is a modified version of the original service design that now meets the requirements set forth by the FCC in June of this year," noted the company's news release.

With SafeCall E911, a subscriber's telephone number and registered location info is automatically routed to the appropriate public safety answering point (PSAP), where an emergency services operator can dispatch emergency assistance. NGT's SafeCall Operator Assisted 911 system is also now available for those existing subscribers with addresses outside the SafeCall E911 coverage area, until SafeCall E911 coverage expands to include these address locations. In the interim, these subscribers will continue to retain their 6DegreesIP VoIP services.

NGT made news back in August when it announced it completed the sale of its International Wholesale Termination (IWT) business unit to StarVox Communications Inc.

"The sale of the IWT business unit is mutually beneficial as it enables us to concentrate more on our VoIP strategy and it allows StarVox to expand its network offerings," said NGT's Grange. "We are the leading provider of managed wholesale VoIP services in the market today, and this transaction enables us to focus entirely on maintaining that position. The IWT business unit is in good hands with StarVox."
