Asserting Your "On Demand Bill Of Rights"

By Tracey E. Schelmetic, Editorial Director, Customer Interaction  Solutions

Ever heard of a business process that comes with a "bill of rights" for users?

Me neither.

That's why this news, from on-demand spend management solutions provider Ketera, is so interesting. Ketera proposes the "On Demand Bill of Rights," a sort of declaration intended to help customers understand and exercise their rights to get business value from on-demand business applications. According to the company, what began as the next-generation applications delivery by a few providers, is "quickly becoming an established movement in how other business software vendors license and sell their applications."

According to Ketera, the new movement toward delivering business apps on hosted platforms has forced a number of traditional licensed software companies to begin claiming they offer "on demand" solutions. Ketera's "On Demand Bill of Rights" was created to caution customers to beware of products that were not designed and built from inception to be on-demand. The company claims that these so-called "on-demand" solutions are often re-packaged versions of outdated products and that they contain a multitude of hidden costs that drag down ROI. The "On Demand Bill of Rights" was created to help customers understand how to best evaluate on-demand solutions.

Ketera claims that understanding what is and isn't a pure on-demand solution will become even more important in an era of large enterprise business software company mergers.

"Many companies seeking to free themselves from the burden of expensive and cumbersome packaged application solutions, have expressed the desire for on demand services that are low-risk, low-cost, easy to use and deliver rapid time to value," said Steve Savignano, CEO of Ketera. "Ketera already delivers this value to all of our customers, both large and small. By introducing the On Demand Bill of Rights, we're helping companies gain more awareness and recognize the business value they deserve from technology solutions."
