Orca Interactive has extended its middleware architecture with the release of Orca RiGHTv 4.5. The new release offers a Service Delivery Platform (SDP) for service creation and delivery of interactive TV applications and services.

The latest version of Orca’s SDP environment offers service control and flexibility for IPTV operators. It enables service providers to quickly introduce an unlimited number of services and applications from various vendors, offering reduced operation costs and costs of ownership and reduced business risks.

The SDP also serves as an integration hub for third-party application developers, enabling use of video servers, CA/DRM and encoders and set-top boxes in households. It offers a vertical video element within a “quadruple-play” SDP that manages video, data, audio and wireless application delivery. The solution uses a converged SDP J2EE-based engine for connecting to the operator’s OSS/BSS. It is also a critical enabler for IMS, forming the creation and management environment for multimedia services and applications.

Additional features of the IPTV SDP include centralized application loading and registration as well as subscriber profile management with targeted pricing per group of users. The SDP offers a SUI SDK development environment for operators, system integrators and application developers, including tools for embedding applications from various vendors into the existing SUI. It also features a number of built-in IPTV applications, including Live TV, EPG, PVR, VOD, SVOD, PPV and Home Media.

"Orca continues to lead the middleware product segment with a first of its kind SDP architecture for IPTV," said Yosi Glick, vice president of marketing and business development, Orca Interactive. "It's hard to predict what will be the next killer app. So rather than trying to identify such hard-to-anticipate applications, we allow operators to deliver a broad mix of services that address varying trends and consumer needs. This allows operators to increase subscriber loyalty and revenues."
