Objective Interface Systems, a provider of high-performance, real-time and embedded communications middleware, and Interpeak, an Internet and networking technology for embedded systems company, have announced a technology integration that results in higherperformance embedded systems on a network. The rise in network embedded systems has created a demand for increased performance.

Objective Interface also addressed the next-generation Internet Protocol (IP) standard, IPv6. The Department of Defense has mandated that IPv6, a replacement to the current IPv4 designed to compensate for the shortcomings of the existing standard, be fully implemented by 2008. Objective Interface’s portfolio of communications middleware products will support Interpeak’s IPv6 solution, enabling engineers to create high-performance, IPv6-comliant embedded systems on a network.

Software Defined Radio (SDR) and cellular base stations are some of the network embedded applications that will experience performance enhancement from software optimizations as a result of Objective Interface and Interpeak collaborations.

Communications middleware products ORBexpress™ and PCSexpress™ and an upcoming publish-subscribe product based on the Data Distribution Service (DDS) standard from Objective Interface support TCP/IP stacks and modules from Interpeak.

Products from Objective Interface will support both IPv4 and IPv6 compatibility with Interpeak’s IPLITE, an embedded Objective and Interpeak: High-Performance Solutions for Networked Embedded Systems TCP/IP stack for IPv4/IPv6 standards, and Interpeak’s IPNET, a full-featured TCP/IP stack specifically designed for embedded real-time systems.

Joe Jacob, senior vice president of Objective Interface Systems, noted that Objective Interface communications middleware enables programmers to simplify the development of distributed embedded applications while also facilitating the design of scalable, portable and high-performance applications. With Interpeak’s best-in-class networking solutions for embedded systems, the companies together provide an integrated software solution for higherperformance embedded systems on any network.

Networking embedded systems can cause a variety of problems for users, according to Johan Fornaeus, CEO of Interpeak. His company’s collaboration with Objective Interface offers users a fully optimized middleware-networking solution that improves performance, reduces development time and increases speed-to-market.

IPv6 is the next generation IP standard that has been designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to replace the current version IPv4. Designed to compensate for the shortage of available IPv4 addresses, IPv6 also provides quality of service (QoS) benefits. In addition, users will see improvements in the areas of routing, multicasting, security, mobility and network auto-configuration.

It is essential that when networking embedded systems that the users not feel the changes. The collaboration between Objective Interface and Interpeak will add significant value to the process if performance is as promised. Additionally, as more and more systems are making the transition to IPv6, companies experienced in the process will be in high demand. The success of this collaboration can enhance positioning for both companies while also providing necessary solutions.

Availability of the solutions from Objective Interface and Interpeak will vary. ORBexpress  and Interpeak’s embedded TCP/IP solutions are currently available while the technical integration for Objective Interface PCSexpress and the future publish-subscribe middleware communication product will be available as those products come to market.
