Continuum Solutions Set Up a Third Facility in Gurgaon, India

Continuum Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank of America, has announced its plan to set up a third facility in Gurgaon, India.

Continuum is a part of Bank of America’s global delivery centre of expertise and manages the bank’s offshore outsourcing activities. The company first anchored in Hyderabad, India, in May 2004, and then moved on to Mumbai to further expand its BPO operations. Encouraged by the results of its first two centers, Bank of America decided to open the third one in Gurgaon.

This move by the bank will preserve its competitive edge in today’s global markets and help it to grow its business at home and overseas .An overall improvement of the financial and operational efficiency and quality for customers and shareholders is expected from this decision.

Continuum is currently providing employment to around 2,500 people in India. It has reportedly already begun the recruitment process and is planning to have a work force of about 1,200 on board by the end of 2006.

The banking giant has realized significant cost savings by shifting hundreds of technology and analytical jobs to India, Singapore and China. Bank authorities and company analysts have estimated that they managed to save around $100 million since 2001 by outsourcing work that was previously done by workers in US and U.K. By shifting some programming work offshore, Bank of America is now successfully able to convert itself into a 24-hour company. Programmers in California can delegate some work overnight to their colleagues in India, who in turn can hand it back over the next morning.

Headed by Navneet Sarin, the Gurgaon unit, however, will be focusing on processes like credit card collections, retail and commercial banking and transaction processing. The company will handle the voice and non-voice retail banking processes and will later add investment banking to its portfolio.
