6WIND has announced 6WINDGate software 2.6, an XML-based management framework for services integration and customization on IP gateways and systems. The 6WINDGate XMS (eXtensible Management System) was introduced as part of the company’s Open Network Engine, and the latest release offers a three-part framework for delivering a number of benefits to networking equipment and system vendors.

The XML Configuration Manager offers a large range of pre-defined XML-based network configuration schemes for management on multi-services IP gateways or systems. The XMS offers an open and flexible environment to extend richer services and applications by integrating features with the 6WINDGate software without the need to re-develop a management system. The solution’s API, known as XIPC, processes any XML-based configuration command to the XMS Configuration Manager whether it e CLI, Web or a third-party configuration tool.

The solution also incorporates module user interfaces, known as XMS Clients. These automatically convert any configuration entered into an XML file that may be processed through XIPC and interface with the XMS Configuration Manager. Customers may also use built-in XMS Client features like the automated CLI system or WEBGate web management system.

"Equipment and system vendors are being weighed down by endless software integration and management to make software codes from various open sources, commercial and proprietary software, as well as co-existing IPv4 and IPv6 standards work together,” said Eric Carmes, COO and co-founder of 6WIND. “Embedded software providers who provide only software stacks without rendering software system integration more open and manageable are totally missing the point."

"6WINDGate XMS, based on our Open Network Engine principle, is conceived to help our customers tackle this complex and tedious software aspect head-on, solving real business issues for them and not just provide a partial solution," said Carmes. "Traditionally, most equipment or system vendors develop their own configuration system or they are obliged to make a diverse string of management tools that come with different software module purchase interface with each other. With 6WINDGate software, the management system is ready for service extensions and configuration using industry-wide XML standard. Customers save enormous time and resources because they are not constrained. They are also assured early on in development that the assimilation of different services and applications has been managed for network-readiness and interoperability."
