TMCnet Contributing Editor
Mobile users with GPRS services now can buy a wide range of products and services from their phones.
Sifymall.com (the shopping portal from Sify Limited) has teamed up with JiGrahak (a mobility solutions provider) to provide mobile shopping. Sify is using JiGrahak’s mobile commerce/payment platform, Next Generation Play (NGPay).
Most mobile phones are GPRS compatible; users may need to ask their service providers to enable the GPRS facility. Once that’s done, the NGPay application can be downloaded for free from www.ngpay.com.
NGPay can be used on a mobile phone to shop for a wide a wide range of products at SifyMall.com, including flowers, books, Movie DVDs and VCD. Currrently, payments can only be made by credit card, but customers soon will be able to pay directly from their bank accounts.
“With the Indian mobile subscriber base growing at the rate of about 2 million users a month, and expected to touch 200 million by 2007, the potential for mobile shopping is huge, said Surya Mantha, senior vice president of Interactive Services, in a press release.
Mantha added: “We expect to grow the mobile shopping service space with this ‘one-of-its kind’ offering, and work towards being a leader in this area. In addition to buying products & services from SifyMall, Sify broadband users can now also renew their broadband subscriptions through this application using their mobiles for convenience.”
