Cognos Modernizes Business Intelligence Software
TMCnet Contributing Editor
Cognos Inc. is all set to launch new software that will help users handle business analysis tools more efficiently, reports Reuters.
Thanks to the software, users will be able to find information in a fast and hassle-free manner. Cognos expects that the service will soon become more widespread.
“That's of course a value to Cognos because it means more license revenue and more seats,” Reuters quoted Don Campbell, Cognos Vice President, Platform Strategy and Technology, as saying. “But it is a value to the organization because they have that information already, it’s just a matter of making it available.”
According to Reuters, the Cognos 8 BI upgrade, called MR1 has combined Microsoft ( News - Alert) Office with new links to PowerPoint. The software will have support for software from Siebel Systems Inc. and SAP AG as well. It will also have new search and reporting features in addition to links to several data sources.
Campbell says that 15 to 20 percent of workers proficient in operating business intelligence software use the technology because of its complexity.
The company has plans release a new search tool called Cognos Go! in May.
Cognos has high expectations for its 8 BI upgrade. The company anticipates earnings between 34 cents and 39 cents a share and revenue between $230 million and $240 million.
