Microsoft Adds Vocalocity VoiceXML Technology to Speech Server 2007

TMCnet Associate Editor

OEM (original equipment manufacturer) software provider Vocalocity announced today that Microsoft has signed a long-term licensing agreement to use the company’s VoiceXML technology in future versions of Microsoft Speech Server.

VoiceXML is an open standard that allows developers to produce inter-operable voice applications.

According to a press release on Vocalocity’s website, Microsoft (News - Alert) Speech Server 2007—with the VoiceXML technology built in—is set for release later this year.

Speech Server provides an “integrated platform with the tools, run-time environment, and core speech and telephony services needed for speech-enabled telephony applications.”

The upgraded version “gives customers open development and speech technology choices for the creation of powerful voice self-service applications,” the release said.

“There is no doubt that the inclusion of VoiceXML, alongside our support for SALT, strengthens Microsoft Speech Server’s position as the most integrated, flexible and cost-effective IVR platform available,” Clint Patterson, Microsoft’s Director of Product Management for the Speech Server department, said in the press release.

Vocalocity’s CEO, Mike Dickerson, added: “The industry is getting closer to the point where speech-enabling enterprise applications is as easy as deploying a web page, and we anticipate the game will change drastically as Microsoft and its partners continue to gain traction in this market.”

Microsoft is now accepting applications from businesses and individuals interested in participating in the Microsoft Speech Server 2007 beta program.
