Thales Group Deploys Primavera Solution Across All Global Divisions
TMCnet Contributing Editor
Primavera Systems, Inc. announced that Thales, a global electronics company, will deploy Primavera across all six of its worldwide divisions. Primavera Program Management will provide the technology framework for Thales to create standard processes for management, viewing, and delivery of all programs and projects across the organization worldwide. The rollout is currently going on across the Aerospace, Air Systems, and Land & Joint Systems, Naval, Security and Services divisions.
Primavera will help Thales to manage schedules, costs, and workload on local and international projects of all sizes. The system is already being used in the Aerospace and Air Systems on major programs such as Watchkeeper, a $1.2 billion Ministry of Defense contract to provide UK armed forces with Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) capability. Other programs include Meltem in Turkey, a $389 million venture that involves supplying 19 maritime patrol and surveillance systems for Turkey's Navy and Coast Guard.
Thales is also migrating old programs over to the new system. Earlier, the company had used a variety of tools for handling programs, including Microsoft ( News - Alert) Project and a custom-built management system. However, since 2004 the company is enforcing standardized and unique global business processes in order to improve efficiency and its competitive edge.
Overhauling program management was considered crucial to the success of this new initiative, and after evaluating solutions from several leading vendors, Thales opted for Primavera's management solution.
The global deployment of Primavera is being handled by Thales's own internal services company, Thales Services Co., which is also providing training and support, with assistance from Primavera. Also, the Thales internal university is educating consultants on the Thales processes for project management who can train users worldwide on their practices that rely upon the Primavera system.
