Route 66 Makes it Virtually Impossible to Become Lost

Associate Editor

It’s good to know where you’re going — it’s even better to know how to get there.  All too frequently, business travelers, vacationers, and visiting family members find themselves on the road without adequate driving directions.  They could have MapQuested their destination before leaving.  They could have made sure to have a map in the car.  But that is of little use now.

For these people — in fact, for any traveler — ROUTE 66 has launched its latest product, Mobile 7 for Windows Mobile smartphones.  ROUTE 66 Mobile 7 determines its position using an advanced, highly sensitive wireless GPS receiver, using that information to guide the user with turn by turn voice instructions supplemented with on-screen visual directions.

An updated display provides users with critical travel information on a single clear screen of their smartphones, including 3D map display, turn arrows, and navigation guidance, as well as the ability to dial points of interest directly from the map.  For accuracy, Mobile 7 features the very latest maps, driving directions enhanced with upcoming exit signs, and continued guidance when GPS reception is temporarily lost — in tunnels, for example.  This is made possible with ROUTE 66’s new Extrapolated GPS (E-GPS) technology.

Features of the ROUTE 66 Mobile 7 software package include:
  • A new navigation information bar, which shows all vital travel information at a glance, including ETA, remaining travel time, remaining travel distance, GPS signal strength, and street name;
  • New pop-up alerts of upcoming turns using a high sensitive wireless GPS receiver which quickly re-establishes satellite connection following signal disruption;
  • ROUTE 66’s new Extrapolated GPS (E-GPS) technology for GPS signal extrapolation in tunnels and urban canyons;
  • Up to date map data to get users to their destinations as quickly and efficiently as possible without any subscription costs;
  • Acoustic and visual alerts to avoid breaking speed limits in unknown areas;
  • Wide range of languages for the user interface and voice driving instructions, including English, Czech, Danish, Dutch, German, Greek, Finnish, French, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish and Swedish
  • Automatically re-calculating the route if a turn is missed and providing flexible travel options;
  • SMS-style text inputs to the FuzzySearch address search engine, points of interest panel, contacts’ addresses, favorites, and history;
  • Ability to make and receive telephone calls, identify points of interest details, including telephone numbers, enable reservation bookings, all at the touch of a button directly from the map;
  • GPS data display

ROUTE 66 Mobile 7 is available immediately.  The Full Navigation Kit contains all the maps for the United States and Canada and is priced at US$ 299 (CAN$ 349), including VAT.  The package includes a memory card, software, maps, memory card reader/writer, Bluetooth GPS receiver, Route 66 lanyard, in-car charger for receiver, universal car mount for smartphone (users are required to supply their own smartphones).

The Software Only version is priced at US$ 149 / CAN$ 169 including VAT.
