Sunnyville, California-based software startup Applibase announced yesterday the introduction of an open-source visual AJAX tool called AppliBuilder, launched at the company’s new online mashup creation website, DataMashups.com.

 

For those unfamiliar with the term, a mashup is a web-based application that uses content from multiple sources, tied together into an integrated resource. Some of the most talked-about mashups so far have been web pages, like this one from the New York Times, that combine Google Maps with other data.

 

At DataMashups.com, developers can create mashup applications online using AppliBuilder’s drag-and-drop tools. The result is a user-friendly environment for building web applications from a variety of visual components.

 

AppliBuilder includes support for REST Web Services and SQL databases.

 

“The promise of online web development with AJAX, where developers do not need to deal with setup and deployment effort, is now being realized,” Applibase’s founder and CEO, Tony Thomas, said in a press release.

 

Thomas added: “This can take development productivity for web applications to another level, more so when combined with the mashup approach to data integration applications.”

Applibase also offers a hosted AJAX development platform, and open-source tools targeted at enterprises, for data integration application developers.
