Lucent Technologies (News - Alert) has announced enhanced versions of its VitalQIP IP Address Management software and VitalSuite Performance Management software, both of which will be demonstrated in for the first time in Nice, France, this week.
Lucent's VitalQIP 7.0 IP Address Management software includes a new user interface which company officials say allows for “ease of use and enhanced productivity,” new features that enhance IP address management business processes to reduce operating expenses, and support for IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4.0) and IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6.0) with new security and configuration capabilities.
IPv6 is the next generation of Internet Protocol, providing a virtually unlimited number of IP addresses as well as generally better performance, security, and enhanced support for mobile and advanced IP services.
The expanded capacity is being marketed as allowing business and consumers to use enhanced multimedia lifestyle services across IP networks, as well as “dramatically increased numbers of phones, computers, cameras, personal digital assistants, portable music and video players, remote sensors and other emerging technologies,” according to Lucent officials.
Ashok Shah, vice president of professional services, Lucent Worldwide Services said the new releases are targeted at network operators, enterprise and government customers who “can't tolerate application and network downtime and need one single consolidated view of their network and application infrastructure."
Lucent is also busy in Central Asia, announcing that KazakhTelecom, Kazakhstan's national carrier, Lucent and Winncom Technologies are all working together to install a multi-vendor operations support system for a next-generation network operations center Lucent and Winncom are building for KazakhTelecom in Astana, the nation's capital.
The new OSS will let KazakhTelecom operate its network infrastructure more efficiently and better manage new IP-based services the operator plans to introduce on its next-generation network, according to Lucent officials.
The multi-vendor OSS, including the VitalSuite software portfolio and its integration with tools from other vendors already existing in the operator's network, should help KazakhTelecom do a better job troubleshooting the network and enhancing the quality of the services delivered to its customers in the Astana region.
Lucent Worldwide Services is also providing consulting services to KazakhTelecom on network processes and operations.
Dmitry Kamensky, managing director, Lucent Technologies Russia and CIS said the OSS is being purchased to provide “the quality of service customers are demanding for IP networks.”
