Tekelec Picks Ixia's VoIP Application for IMS Testing

Ixia, an IP testing systems provider, announced on Monday that it was tapped by Tekelec to implement its IxVoice test application to verify the company's fixed mobile convergence (FMC) voice and messaging system on its IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS) architecture. Tekelec will also use IxVoice to conduct interoperability field trials with a tier-one carrier.

"We chose Ixia's IxVoice product as our core IMS testing product because it supported the dynamic architecture requirements inherent in large-scale IMS networks," stated Ron De Lange, president and general manager, Network Signaling Group, Tekelec. "Its distributed architecture supporting central results correlation and its flexible protocol library made it a clear choice. The IxVoice product's powerful and easy-to-use call-flow scripting allows branching, and, when combined with its extensive parsing capability, it simplifies simulating large-scale call flows."

IxVoice is a hardware and software test framework that provides unified VoIP and PSTN testing for network equipment manufacturers and service providers. It addresses SIP, SCCP (Skinny), H.323, MGCP, H.248 (MEGACO), as well as TDM and analog telephony services. Ixia IxVoices's test set-ups can synchronize telephony events across IP and PSTN technologies and can include any combination of media such as video, voice, tone, and fax (T.30/T.38).

Tekelec will also use Ixia's IxVoice in field trials to simulate IMS subscribers and verify the functionality and performance of SMS messages to other simulated subscribers and real SIP-enabled devices within an IMS environment.

"The adoption of IMS greatly depends on the collaboration of manufacturers in ensuring true interoperability of their network devices and application services, which is where Ixia is focused today," said Ixia's CEO Errol Ginsberg in a statement. "Ixia's IxVoice flexibility enables manufacturers to quickly create custom call flows to test functionality, robustness, and interoperability."

Tekelec made news back in March when it announced that two competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), Burlington Telecom and Crocker Telecommunications had deployed the Tekelec 7000 Class 5 Packet Switch (Tekelec 7000) and Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server (Tekelec 6000) to deliver voice, Internet and video services.

The Tekelec 7000 is a softswitch that integrates with IP and time division multiplexing (TDM) network interfaces, enabling a smoother network migration to VoIP. The Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server integrates with Tekelec's switching platforms to enable delivery of voice, data, video and wireless services.
