Zhone Announces IMACS 200 Integrated Solution for Voice and Data Applications
TMCnet Contributing Editor
Zhone Technologies, Inc. has rolled out the IMACS 200 integrated solution for voice and data applications. The latest addition to the existing IMACS product line is optimized for the needs of electric utilities, and supports a wide range of specialty traffic.
The IMACS 200 supports transmission line control (EIA-232 electrical and IEEE C37.94 optical), SCADA, surveillance video, telephony, Ethernet, substation automation and alarms and radio. The new system offers an array of integrated network diagnostic and fault isolation capabilities like bit error rate testers, test tone and signaling state generation, remote configuration and control and digital and analog loop back support.
The system is optimized for electrical utility sub-station applications, and supports the latest IEEE C37.94 standard for data over fiber that is critical to the secure operation of the electrical grid. It may be deployed in harsh environments, and small size and low price point add to the value of the system. Commonality with the Zhone IMACS family means existing customers need minimal training and will already by familiar with operating the system.
The unit features a 2U chassis, which houses an array of interfaces and features. Interfaces include legacy RS-232, V.35, two- and four-wire analog voice, and the more modern Ethernet and C37.94 optical interfaces. All interfaces are supported from the same access device, along with a flexible cross connect fabric for maximum use of existing T1 facilities.
“The concept of an integrated one box solution for advanced voice and data applications began with the introduction of the IMACS,” said Joe Fortin, associate vice president of Zhone’s TDM products group. “With more than 80,000 systems deployed worldwide, the IMACS is an established leader in the access marketplace. The IMACS 200 extends that tradition with an integrated solution optimized to economically address smaller port size applications.”
