Call Center Offers Residents Displaced by Hurricane Katrina and Rita with Information and Support
TMCnet Assistant Editor
Although the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's sweeping wrath across the Golf Coast—and especially to the area of New Orleans—is fast approaching, recovery and rebuilding efforts are still constant and very much a necessity.
To further offer residents displaced by the flooding and hurricanes of Katrina and Rita with a resource for attaining important information, a new call center with 24-hour operator assistance was announced yesterday.
According to an Ascribe Newswire report, the new call center has been established to help displaced residents attain up-to-date information on such topics as, "rebuilding efforts, schools, healthcare, housing issues, business and entrepreneur help, voting, policy issues, pending legislation, community resources and funding opportunities for non-profits."
In addition to the information and resources offered via www.LouisianaRebuilds.info , the newly established call center—which can be reached by dialing 1-877-LA-Rebuilds-- will provide residents who do not use the Internet, or who prefer telephone contact, with the ability to speak to an operator about receiving information and support. This additional mode of contact is designed to help reach more residents, thus strengthening the rebuilding efforts.
“One of our biggest challenges has been to get accurate information to displaced residents about assistance that is available to them, as well as about efforts to rebuild their communities,” the report quoted Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) Board Chair Norman C. Francis as saying.
Francis continued: “We're grateful to all of our partners who have committed so much of themselves and their organizations' resources to develop a more user-friendly way to serve individuals who can't or won't seek information online. This is one more tool to help us reach out to Louisiana people and to welcome them home.”
The Ascribe Newswire report also noted that many of the operators at the new call center—which is operated by CALL PLUS, formerly New Orleans Teleport, a company displaced by Katrina and now located in Lafayette Louisiana— also experienced the hurricane’s effects firsthand and can offer sympathetic support.
