MessageLabs Standardizing On Cognos
TMCnet Contributing Editor
Cognos (News - Alert), a vendor of business intelligence and performance management products, has announced that MessageLabs, a vendor of integrated messaging and Web security services to businesses worldwide, is standardizing on Cognos as its global reporting platform.
All business functions across MessageLabs, including sales, marketing, HR and finance, will "benefit from the implementation of Cognos 8 BI," MessageLabs officials hope, saying "they will have increased accessibility to up-to-the-minute critical business data, enhanced performance analysis and tracking, and self-serve reporting functionality."
MessageLabs started using Cognos enterprise planning solution and Cognos business intelligence reporting in June 2005, and joined the beta program for Cognos 8 BI in fall 2005. MessageLabs upgraded to Cognos 8 BI in March 2006.
Autonomy Corporation plc, an enterprise software vendor, announced last month a partnership with Cognos, Canada's largest software company, to develop “in-depth integration that converges results of unstructured information with structured data for business intelligence.”
The business rationale behind the deal is that while enterprise customers collect unstructured information such as customer feedback, complaints, and interviews through phone conversations, e-mails, word documents, and other sources that sit outside the scope of traditional databases, they’re in need of ways to search and use this information.
The integration of Autonomy and Cognos 8 BI is designed, officials of both companies say, to provide “instant high-level visibility, insight and analysis of an organization’s business critical data.”
So with Cognos Go!, enterprise users can use concept-based search to access relevant enterprise information by detecting “hot topics” in an organization’s information assets.
This past January Cognos announced a deal with Similarity Systems, vendor of business-focused data quality products, where the two companies would provide enterprise customers with a range of products for analyzing, managing, monitoring and improving the quality of data within the Cognos platforms.
Under the agreement, Similarity Systems and Cognos will enable Similarity Systems’ data quality metrics to be presented in Cognos 8 Business Intelligence. The two companies will also cooperate in joint marketing and sales initiatives.
