AT&T Scores Major Networking Contract for City of New York

AT&T announced a deal on Monday that could potentially be worth $100 million. The telco was tapped by the City of New York to provide local, long distance and networking services for both the city's routine and critical data applications.

The new agreement calls for the city to have the option of using AT&T (News - Alert) local and long distance voice services, as well as AT&T data services. Agencies of the city's municipal government, as well as a substantial list of publicly-funded cultural institutions (such as public libraries) and public authorities (such as public transportation agencies and public hospitals) can use the contract to either purchase new services or replace those being provided by other carriers.

"We are pleased to strengthen our relationship with the City of New York by offering voice and data services throughout the city," said AT&T's group president Forrest Miller in a statement. "AT&T's outstanding business continuity services will serve the agencies of New York well, and will enable the city to enhance the services provided to its residents and businesses."

Today's news follows AT&T's announcement on Friday about it inking a new, three-year contract with used vehicle data and photo collection company Dealer Specialties. Through the new agreement, AT&T will offer Dealer Specialties with nationwide data connectivity through Managed Internet Service (MIS) with a managed router for its hosting center at the company's headquarters in Monroe, Ohio.

The new service will allow Dealer Specialties to better manage additional applications including Web-based inventory management tools and automotive dealer Web sites, which support the company's business.
