RNK Telecom to Acquire iOnosphere

PSTN and VoIP telephony service provider RNK Telecom announced Monday its plans to acquire iOnosphere, Inc., a South Carolina-based provider of VoIP products and services, and international long distance wholesale carrier. The companies expect to complete the transaction by the end of this month.


 
"We are excited to welcome iOnosphere as part of RNK, and look forward to working with their highly talented and experienced team," said RNK Telecom's president and chief executive officer Richard N. Koch in a statement.


 
iOnosphere terminates international telecom traffic to over 200 destinations for customers including Tier 1 U.S. and European carriers. According to RNK's news release, the combined entity's annual revenue is expected to exceed $60 million.
 
This transaction will enable RNK to extend its reach to Asia, Africa, the Middle East, South America and other international destinations.
 
"As a recognized industry leader, we look forward to joining the RNK Team, and to being an integral component of its continued worldwide expansion," stated iOnosphere's CEO James Bailey. "The joining of these two established telcos signifies great things, not only for our customers, but for the telecommunications market and its continued adoption of VoIP."
 
RNK recently deployed Lucent Technologies' Compact Switch, bundled with Performance Technologies' (News - Alert) Point Code Emulation (PCE) system, to expand its coverage in New York and New Jersey, as well as to enhance existing telephony services throughout its Mid-Atlantic network.
 
The Lucent Compact Switch supports more than 20,000 VoIP ports (or more than 80,000 traditional voice lines) on a single integrated platform. In addition to providing VoIP, Voice ATM gateway capabilities, Internet off-load and gateway mobile switching center features, the compact switch also offers CALEA and E911 capabilities.
